My Hair Regimen

As you embark on your hair journey, I feel it is important to keep track of your hair regimen so you understand what works for your hair and what needs adjusting. Although our hair is unique, I feel its also good for us to share our experiences with our regimen to give others inspiration of new techniques.

I try to keep my regimen really simple so I can keep track of what is and isn't working.

As of 26/ 07 /2013

Shampoo Monthly

  • I use Keracare cleansing cream (sulphate free shampoo). I only shampoo monthly to remove buildup as I find when I shampoo I get more shedding than when I co-wash
  • Or Joico Kpak Chelating shampoo. ( not sulfate free) As I live in London I have hard water so this shampoo gets rid of the hard water build up i.e chlorine, minerals, magnesium ( and other horrible things). When I used this for the first time in some areas of my hair my curl pattern loosened to like 4a/b and i'm a certified 4C (and proud!). But still if this continues I will report back

CO - Wash Weekly

  • With Tresemme naturals nourishing moisture conditioner. (Silicone free with Aloe Vera and Avocado oil!)
  • This is a light weight conditioner which effectively cleanses my scalp but is not as harsh as a shampoo. I ensure this gets on my scalp to give it a good cleanse!

Protein treatment
  • I use Olive oil hair mayonnaise. I use this whenever my hair feels like it needs protein. i.e when my hair feels mushy, over moisturised and weak.

Deep Conditioner

  • I use Olive Oil Replenishing conditioner every 2 weeks for a deep conditioner.
  • I do not do it weekly for fear of over moisturising. (my 4C hair soaks up moisture well! lol)

Leave in conditioner
  • I am currently using Cantu Shea Butter leave in conditioner after I finish washing, smells great!

Leave in 2
  • When my hair feels weak and I see breakage but its not time for wash day I use  Creme of Nature Argon oil strength and shine leave in. This is a unique blend that provides moisture and protein. Its great for when Im taking my hair out of braids, it really softens and aids in the detangling process.

Moisturiser
  • I use my Cantu Shea Butter leave in as a moisturiser, however I feel it may be too lightweight as it does not moisturise my hair for long.
  • Durig the weak I spritz my hair with Distilled Water then follow with Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) sometimes I add the cantu leave in after the spritz for extra moisture if I feel its needed.
  • I use distilled water as water in London is hard so I dont want to be spritzing my hair with all that gunk! Click here to see how to make your own distilled water
Sealant
  • To seal in the moisture I use Extra Virgin Olive oil

EXTRAS

Scalp Massages
  • In order to stimulate blood and nutrients to the scalp I do massages 3 times a week.
  • I use a blend of EVOO, Caster oil, Rosemary Oil. (the latter two because they are great for stimulating growth and thickness) Rosemary has vapour rub type smell to it so you can feel your scalp tingle!
Hot Oil Treatments

  • The night before wash day I heat up Castor oil and Rosemary oil and do a scalp massage and cover my strands with the oil, sleep in a shower cap and satin scarf then wash out in the morning
